Sustainability Activities at ADIS
Sustainability at the Core of ADIS
At ADIS, we are dedicated to making thoughtful choices that benefit both our community and the planet, truly embodying the spirit of 'One Health, One World!' Sustainability is woven into nearly every school activity, whether it's assemblies, events, or awareness sessions. Our sustainability event calendar, aligned with UNESCO guidelines, plays a crucial role in fostering awareness and action throughout the school.
Sustainability in School Events
We’ve made significant strides by integrating sustainability into key events such as the Science Fair, Ubuntu, Book Fair, and Wellbeing Week. Additionally, Sports Day featured sustainability as a central theme, underscoring the importance of eco-friendly practices even in physical activities. Emphasizing eco-conscious practices is not merely a choice; it’s a collective responsibility we share for our planet.
Curriculum Integration and Cambridge Quest
A pivotal step has been the integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into our curriculum, particularly through the Mathematics and Science departments. The Cambridge Quest Course introduced for both teachers and students has deepened our collective understanding of sustainable practices and their relevance in education.
Student Engagement and Environmental Clubs
Our students actively participated in initiatives such as the Climate Change workshop and Greenmosphere, designed for Grades 7 and 8 demonstrating our commitment to experiential learning that addresses real-world challenges. We also launched sustainability clubs for primary and secondary students, empowering them to take an active role in addressing environmental issues.
Celebrations with a Sustainable Focus
Last year, we celebrated Sustainability Wellbeing Week with the theme 'One Health, One World,' uniting students and faculty from EYP, PYP, IGCSE, and Diploma levels. Collaboration across programs encouraged innovation and teamwork in the classroom, reflecting our shared commitment to sustainability. Our Diwali assembly also incorporated sustainability themes, focusing on both cultural celebration and environmental responsibility particularly addressing the impact of firecracker use.
Innovative Daily Practices and Earth Hour
In collaboration with the Student Council, Form Tutors, and Homeroom Teachers, we developed daily activities that reinforced the importance of sustainability in everyday life. During Earth Hour in March 2025, we turned off electricity for an hour and conducted lessons using natural light. A meditation session was also introduced to encourage a digital detox and mindfulness.
Empowering Future Environmental Leaders
We urge all coordinators to continue sharing these initiatives and encouraging student-led participation. At ADIS, we believe in the foundational values of education acquiring scientific knowledge, developing practical skills, and communicating concepts effectively while nurturing an informed and respectful attitude toward environmental matters. By embedding sustainability into every aspect of school life, we are shaping the next generation of environmentally conscious leaders.
